Curriculum Vitae for Jens Christian Søndergaard

1945 Born in Copenhagen, Denmark.

1961 Begins to play jazz on clarinet.

1963-65 First own group I.C. Søndergaard's Jazzband inspired by Duke Ellington's early groups. Drop clarinet- focusing on altosax

1965-69 Søndergaard-Nehammer quintet (bebop).

1967-78 Member of Leonardo Pedersen's Jazzkapel - one of the best swing groups in Denmark working together with Harry "Swe ets" Edison, Wild Bill Davison, Eddie "Lockjaw" Da vis and others.

1974 Won a prize as best foreign soloist at Jazzfestival in Prerov, Cze choslovakia.

1975-80 Own group "Jazz ad Hoc" with trombone player Bjarne Than ning. Won first prize at jazzfestival in Dunkirk, France.

1978 .... Member of "Swingstyrke 7", a seven piece swing group wor king together with Kenny Drew, Ed Thigpen, Clark Terry, Thad Jones, Richard boone and others. Played at jazz festival in Nice (1979). Heard Art Pepper live first time.

1978 ... Member of American jazz singer Etta Cameron's group. Recording and playing jazz and gospel concerts all over Europe.

1979-81 Godske/Blach Swingtet recording with Etta Cameron.

1980-83 Member of White Label Jazz Group touring in Russia 1982.

1981 ... Various own quartets with leading Danish jazz musici ans.

1986 Organized clinics with and took private lessons from Lee Ko nitz in Copenhagen.

1987 First recording as a leader of "No Coast Quartet", heavi ly inspired by Lee Konitz.

1989 Touring and recording with Lee Konitz. Working and recording with Enrico Pieranunzi in Rome.

1992 Leading nonet playing concerts and recording with Lee Konitz, Jazzpar Prize winner 1992.

1992 .... Member of one of the leading big bands in Denmark, Klüve r's Big Band, which is working with soloists like Bob Minzer, Kenny Werner, Deborah Brown and many ot hers. Organizing Monday Jazz Nights at Jazzbar Bent J. in År hus. Playing gigs all over Denmark with own quartet, often with soloists from USA and Europe.

1995 Received "Gaffelprisen", i.e.: prize for his great ef forts within the jazz-environment in Aarhus, Denmark.

1995... Leading diffenrent groups with top danish musicians , worked regualary with american soloists like Benny Golson. Member and recording With leading danish swingbigband Ib Glindeman,as soliist with differnet local bigbands etc

2014... Niels W. Knudsens Quintet m.
